Raising hope for foster children in Missouri
A new barn stands as a symbol of comfort, care and community at Drumm Farm Center for Children.

The act of raising a barn is a time-honored tradition, one where neighbors come together to build something that will last for generations. On August 26, Spire employees upheld that tradition at Drumm Farm Center for Children.
Nestled on a quiet stretch of land in Independence, Missouri, Drumm Farm is a working farm that provides homes for foster families who live on site.
A few years ago, a shed on the property burned down. It was used to store hay, straw and machinery, keeping everything protected from the weather.
Spire employees rebuilt the barn as part of their “Day for Good” project, a Spire Serves program that gives employees paid time to volunteer.
"As we raise a barn, we’re also helping raise children, supporting youth and giving them the tools for lifelong success,” said Ben McDowell, Drumm Farm’s deputy director of operations. “Having a group like Spire come out with skilled tradespeople, who need little direction, is huge for us. It saves us time and makes a big impact."
