Spire volunteers assisted with sorting, repacking, and checking expiration dates of donated food to support Feeding the Gulf Coast, a pantry affiliate of Feeding America.

The team also cleaned out the pantry’s storage areas. The volunteer effort took place during a critical time when thousands of people along the Gulf Coast were recovering from Hurricane Ida.

"As members of this community, we want to help in any way we can. No one should have to wonder where their next meal is going to come from."

“Many people were in need of immediate support,” said Sharon Maffott, Spire regional manager for Gulf Coast and Mississippi. “This volunteer project helped make sure food was ready and available to meet that need.  As members of this community, we want to help in any way that we can. No one should have to wonder where their next meal is going to come from.”

Feeding the Gulf Coast works through member organizations and special programs to provide nutritious food to meet the challenge of feeding people who are hungry because of systemic poverty, personal crisis or disaster.
